The Parsonage was built in the mid 1940's for the pastor of the beautiful and historic St. Stephen's Lutheran Church next door. The house is light and bright and offers room for all to gather together or one can slip off for some quiet time. This is a two-story house with one bedroom and bathroom on the main floor. Five bedrooms and another bathroom are located on the second floor. A very large and well-equipped kitchen has all you need to cook up meals for your group. There is a large dining room and the adjoining living room has lots of room for everyone to spread out comfortably. The living room also features a 72" flat screen television and cable television, so you won't miss your favorite game or series. There are toys and a pack 'n play for the kiddos, as well as a high chair. Summary: Four friends gathered for a weekend of conversation, games, good food, and outdoor winter adventures. This property provided an excellent home base with a kitchen that had the equipment we needed to prepare delicious breakfasts (crepes one day and scrambled eggs another) and snacks. We brought in some food and were able to pick up a few other items at the little Downtown Grocery store, within walking distance of the house. The large dining table was a perfect spot for food and playing our favorite board games together. The living room had space to relax and to stretch with a yoga practice streamed in via youtube. Food options were excellent in the area. We ate at Red Eye Brewery and Lemongrass. Wonderful food and atmosphere at each. Nearby Rib Mountain and Nine Mile Recreation area provide plenty of space for winter hiking and snowshoeing (next time XC ski at Nine Mile would be fun to try) and we walked out to the Isle of Ferns to get a look at the river (this is probably more appealing in warm weather). Cute shops in Wausau, including a seemingly endless home décor shop and bookstore, were great to browse through and very close to home - walkable. Imagine some groups more into shopping would find other treasures here or nearby. The house was larger than we needed for four of us - we had fun choosing private bedrooms for the weekend away - but the location and amenities made this worthwhile. I recommend this place for large families or friend groups. I hope to come back to the area again soon.
