The Hurd Carriage House has an open airy floor plan with a full size kitchen. It is stocked with anything you would need to fill the house with the most delightful smells. The kitchen has more than enough counter space for cooking and socializing with a new gorgeous wood countertop. Lots of windows are along the large dining table to let the sun shine through as you enjoy your breakfast. The windows also look out to our patio where summer fun will be had by all. The living room has a large TV with streaming capabilities along with a pullout couch and other seating. The bathroom has a full shower with a luxurious jacuzzi tub when winding down for the night. It is also equipped with double sinks and a washer + dryer duo for all your washing needs. This two bedroom bungalow has a large, cozy king bed and twin bunk beds to rest after a long day of exploring the wondrous sights in Wabasha. The Carriage house offers families an alternative lodging experience next to the oldest operating hotel in the state of Minnesota.
The entire carriage house is a private lodging experience. You will have access to two parking spaces next to it and access to the hotel's sauna and breakfast nook.

The hotel was built by B.F. Hurd in 1856 and was known as the Hurd House until 1909. Hurd's son-in-law became owner of the hotel in 1885 and added a third story and a west wing. He also installed electricity and modern bathrooms. In 1909 the Anderson family purchased the business and renamed it the Anderson Hotel. The Hurd House (Anderson House Hotel) is the longest operating Bed and Breakfast in the State of MN.

The Historic Anderson House Hotel is a hotel and event venue in Wabasha, Minnesota, United States. The hotel opened in 1856 and was Minnesota's oldest continuously operating bed and breakfast inn west of the Mississippi River. Most of the furniture dates back to 1856 as well. The building was expanded in 1887. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Hurd House–Anderson Hotel in 1978 for having local significance in the theme of commerce. It was nominated for being a prominent and long-operating business originating in the years of Wabasha's rapid growth as a river and rail transportation hub.[4] In 1982 it was also listed as a contributing property to the Wabasha Commercial Historic District.
The hotel was known for the Dutch cooking in the restaurant; a 1948 Anderson family cookbook had 500 recipes. It was also famous for the cats which hotel guests could stay with for overnight companionship. A 1990 children's book, Blumpoe the Grumpoe Meets Arnold the Cat, told the story of a curmudgeon who traveled to Wabasha and was endeared to the black-and-white cat that slept in his room.
Grandma Anderson', a woman who believed that hospitality was everything. the Anderson House became known for its cats! Guests could have their own bed-warmer upon request when making a booking, with a cat delivered to their room for their enjoyment, together with litter box, food, water and toys. For anyone allergic to or not wanting a feline companion there were cat-free rooms — but with 51 rooms and only seven cats (the number seemed to vary from time to time; sometimes there were only five, perhaps depending on the number of available and suitable cats —Ed.), demand for feline companions usually exceeded supply! Regulars would book early to try to ensure that their favorite cat was available, and the cats were 'in use' nearly all the time.
2021, in the middle of the world's worst pandemic of the century a group of historic building investors purchased the Anderson House Hotel as a sister hotel to the Grant House Hotel in Rush City, MN. They have been making modern upgrades (new mattresses thank God) and ushering in a marriage of modern technology using airbnb and contactless check in with the historic furnishings and ambience of the days of old. The hope is to reopen the Dutchman Speakeasy Lounge in 2022-23 as well as the hotel restaurant.
