Latitude Adjustment is a truly adorable and family-friendly vacation home on pristine Bass Lake outside the cute northern Michigan town of Elk Rapids, which is just 20 minutes north of Traverse City. This lovely lakefront vacation cottage has 4 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, and lots of living space! Although it can technically sleep more than 8 people, we limit capacity to 8 people. Outside, the property features a private beach, private beach bonfire ring, a private dock, and two kayaks!

The cottage is just a short drive from downtown Elk Rapids, which has a very quaint and charming Main Street with a good supply of restaurants, shops, and cafes. If more dining, shopping, and entertainment options are desired, Traverse City is just 20 minutes away! Traverse City is the main shopping, dining, and entertainment center for all of northern Michigan and there are a vast variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment options available there.
Guests have full access to the entire house. There is a separate detached garage that is used for storage and is NOT available for guest usage.
The cottage is on Bass Lake, which is one of a large number of lakes in the area including the famous and wildly popular Torch Lake, Elk Lake, and, of course, Lake Michigan, Michigan's treasured gem. (All of these lakes are just short drives from this vacation cottage.) The cottage is on a lovely little peninsula called Swan Point that extends out into Bass Lake. The cottage has a wonderful sandy beach for kids (and adults ;-) to play on. There are a number of comfortable Adirondack chairs on the private beach right on the Bass Lake and there is also a fire ring on the private beach for wonderful family beach bonfires (with s'mores, of course!) There are some children's beach toys on the beach as well. There is also a nice dock that goes out into Bass Lake for fishing and refreshing jumps into the lake. Two kayaks are also included with this rental.
In addition to all of the lakefront attractions, this vacation home has a huge yard for kids to play and adults to enjoy! The huge yard allows for playing fun family lawn games together. There is a large deck with a huge handmade picnic table that easily accommodates 8 adults. A charcoal grill is provided on the deck as well. (Note that charcoal is not provided.) This allows for wonderful outdoor cooking and dining while enjoying the beauty of the lake. In front of the house there is a large driveway that easily accommodates up to 4 vehicles.
Inside the cottage, there is a fun and festive northern Michigan nautical vibe throughout the house with family-friendly accommodations that include a portable crib, high chair, toddler bed, and a trundle bed. The cottage has 4 bedrooms. The master bedroom has its own en suite half-bathroom, a large closet, and a trundle bed that slides out from under the full-size bed that is in that bedroom. Bedrooms #2 and #3 both feature queen-size beds, with bedroom #3 having a beautiful view of the lake from the bedroom. Bedroom #4 has a full-size bed.
The cottage has been significantly expanded in size by turning a large 2-car garage area into living quarters. This area allows for a second living room (great for kids to play in) and it also allowed for the creation of bedrooms #3 and #4. The front entry way has a washer and dryer just inside the front door and the entryway separates the the two sides of the house, which again works great for giving kids their own private (but very safe) area to play in.
The cottage features a beautiful nautical-themed living room with a stunning view of the lake. There is a fun, family-friendly dining table next to the kitchen, which is beautiful and modern with stainless steel appliances including an electric range, side-by-side refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave. This vacation home has an abundance of windows and natural lighting and, in addition to the lake view from both living rooms, the lake is visible from the kitchen, dining area, and bedroom #3. The open design of the cottage allows for complete visibility and interaction between the main living room, dining area, and kitchen.
The cottage does not have air conditioning, but given the presence of the lake, the cottage's proximity to the cool waters of Lake Michigan, and the cottage's wonderful northern latitude, air conditioning is really not needed. As previously mentioned, there is a washer and dryer, which makes the cottage all the more family-friendly and guests are very welcome to use the washer and dryer. There is a fireplace, but, for safety, guests are not permitted to use the fireplace.
