Positive: We enjoyed several aspects of our stay at Monterey Beach Hotel. The room was clean, and the ocean views were beautiful. Having the beach directly in front of our room was a highlight, and the walk-down stairs made beach access easy and convenient. The outdoor decks with fire pits were a nice feature, and we appreciated that they offered s’mores kits for the kids — that was a thoughtful touch. The daily drink voucher is also a nice perk for guests, as well as the other perks like the E bike rental, cold plunge and sauna, though we did not partake. The staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We also liked that parking was located close to our room, which made unloading and coming and going easier. Overall, the beachfront location and views are definitely the standout features of the property.

Negative: The beds were uncomfortable, which made it hard to get a good night’s sleep. There also appears to be a restaurant or bar directly above some of the rooms because it was very noisy at night — loud music and constant footsteps that went on late. That definitely impacted our ability to rest. We were also disappointed that the fire pits shut off at 10pm on a Saturday. We had to wait for other guests to leave so we could make s’mores, and by the time we were able to get a spot, the fire pits had already turned off. That was frustrating for the kids. Additionally, wine glasses and alcohol bottles were left out on the deck overnight and weren’t cleaned up until close to 8am. It kind of ruins the peaceful morning vibe when you’re trying to sit outside with coffee and watch the sunrise. Parking was another issue. Paying almost $60 per night for parking — on top of an already expensive room — felt excessive, especially in a garage owned by the hotel. The spaces were also very tight. Lastly, we weren’t able to find a heating option in the room for when it got chilly at night, which made it uncomfortable.

Summary: Overall, while the location and views are beautiful, the cost didn’t match the overall experience for us.
