The space
This unique custom built home reminds me of a treehouse because of the viewpoint it gives of the lake.
For me the restoration begins with the scenic views on my drive from the Twin Cities.
My favorite things are hearing the Loons and watching them on the lake every day out the window and seeing the Eagles at eye level from the vantage point that this cabin gives on top of a south facing hill that looks over a lake that appears to be free of human interruption. With just four homes on the north side of the lake and a peninsula to look at across the lake that's undeveloped, it feels like you're in a remote location.
It is ideal for older children and nimble adults. There are some steep staircases and areas that can be treacherous for toddlers!
There are also 56 steps down to the lake and the shoreline is not easily visible from the house so younger children could be a hassle to keep an eye on.
There are also steep steps and unconventional railings leading to the loft area that require parental supervision for toddlers.
Unfortunately there is no fire pit or fireplace
Guest access
Beware of the driveway in the spring time! There is an uphill section that can be challenging for light or rear wheel drive vehicles. You will definitely need to get a running start if icey or soggy as the ground thaws.
*Bring your own life jackets.
Other things to note
Our septic system is a bit delicate so please be mindful to not flush feminine hygiene products etc.
About the lake… this lake has NO PUBLIC ACCESS. It is a meandering lake with lily pads at the edges. We have a paddle boat that we paddle our way past the weeds and swim. There is a 30 foot drop out in the middle of the main section of water in front of the cabin. Otherwise the lake is between five and 10 feet around the other parts.
Fishing can be fun! There are bass, sunnies, crappies, and northern.
Horseshoe Lake and Turtle Lake are nearby and they both have public access. Our property has room to accommodate a boat trailer if interested in fishing nearby lakes.
The stairs going down to the our lake have 56 steps and they are fairly steep and it would be challenging to bring equipment UP and down like your own personal kayaks, canoes, etc. just know that before renting.
With preservation of this small special lake in mind, we ask that you bring no minnow buckets or fishing equipment or gear or boats from other lakes without completely cleaning first.
